Jacqueline Nguyen is a Vietnamese-American attorney and judge who currently serves as a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She was nominated to the position by President Barack Obama in 2009 and confirmed by the Senate in 2013.
Nguyen was born in South Vietnam and immigrated to the United States with her family as a child. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Occidental College and her Juris Doctor from the UCLA School of Law.
Prior to becoming a judge, Nguyen worked as a federal prosecutor in the United States Attorney's Office for the Central District of California, where she prosecuted cases involving organized crime, drug trafficking, and white-collar crimes. She was also in private practice as a litigation attorney.
Nguyen is the first Asian-American woman to serve as a United States District Judge in the Central District of California. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Trailblazer Award from the Vietnamese American Bar Association of Southern California.
